7 Tips to Treating and Managing Postural Hypotension

There are many causes of Postural Hypotension, but there are also some common ways to treat or manage this condition, regardless of what might be the cause. Below I will list 7 tips for the treatment and management of Postural Hypotension.



Tip 1:
Try not to stand up too quickly.  Standing up slowly allows the blood vessels to have more time to properly constrict. Fainting, or syncope, can result in standing up too quickly with postural hypotension.







Tip 2:
Increase your daily salt intake by taking sodium supplements, or drinks containing electrolytes(Gatorade, Powerade, Pedialyte are a few).  10 g per day is the suggested limit, as too much salt can lead to the opposite condition, hypertension(aka high blood pressure, the silent killer)

Tip 3:
Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water, and avoid alcohol. This will help prevent you from becoming dehydrated.
